Map data & your journey

Travel is an early family travel planning prototype at jonaschlegelmilch.de/travel/. It is operated by Jona Fynn Schlegelmilch, as stated in the shared legal notice.

Only after activation

The overview map loads from this website. External map services remain disabled until activated.

Direct browser requests technically expose your IP address and possibly the website origin to these services. The app has no user accounts, Travel trackers or permanent trip storage. Inputs remain in the open page’s memory and are discarded on reload. Browsers and map services may maintain technical caches and their own logs. Hosting logs are described in the shared privacy notice; specific hosting retention periods remain to be clarified.

Disabling activation stops external connections and clears the trip. The local overview map stays visible. This does not retract data already sent to providers.

How suggestions are generated

OSRM supplies the route and segment driving times. Using Photon, Travel searches a limited area around three points in the selected time window, rather than the entire journey. Each point and category group returns at most 50 results, and not every OpenStreetMap category is fully indexed. Places come from OpenStreetMap. Approximate break times are based on the closest route position. Suggested detours are estimated from straight-line distance and an assumed speed; a real route through a stop is calculated only when you add it.

The age filter excludes places only when OpenStreetMap explicitly lists a minimum or maximum age. Other age and duration suggestions are approximate guidance. Places with unknown information remain visible. Swimming suggestions are listed bathing areas or beaches; a body of water alone is not suggested as a safe swimming spot.

No live traffic or verified opening hours or admission prices. Completeness, access and swimming safety are not guaranteed. Public map services may be slow or unavailable. Regular platform operation requires reliable service agreements or dedicated infrastructure.

Rainy-day breaks

Museums and indoor playgrounds extend the search. The rain filter enables both interests and hides other places without listed indoor facilities. Indoor playgrounds are listed indoor play venues or playgrounds tagged indoor=yes. Museums are suggested as possible rainy-day options unless an outdoor or open-air indication is identified. Being tagged as a museum does not confirm indoor spaces, so these suggestions say “check indoor spaces”. Missing or incomplete map data may cause missing results or incorrect classification. No weather forecast is retrieved. The rain filter, like other interests, is evaluated locally.

Provider links and booking

Each suggestion links to its place details and map location. Listed website and booking URLs are displayed when available. A website alone is not a confirmed booking link. Missing booking links are indicated; the app does not purchase tickets or make reservations. Opening external provider links exposes your IP address to them. Their own terms and privacy notices apply.

Date, time and opening hours

Arrival at planned stops uses the actual OSRM route legs and all preceding breaks. Suggestion times are estimates along the base route and include earlier planned breaks. All times use the chosen journey time zone. Opening hours are evaluated locally with opening_hours.js; missing, conditional or unreliable place information remains unknown. Public and school holiday rules without sufficient country/region data are not displayed as confirmed opening. No live confirmation; check with the provider.

Photos show examples of the activity, not the suggested venues. Images are served locally; authors, sources and licences are linked under “Photos & credits”. The local overview map is from Natural Earth (public domain).
